What is Gutsy Walk?
Join us Sunday June 4, 2017 for the 22nd annual Gutsy Walk and become part of Canada’s largest community event committed to raising funds for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Show loved ones living with Crohn’s and colitis they are not alone.
 
Fundraise and walk as a team or as an individual in any of our 60+ Gutsy Walk locations across Canada to help improve the lives of children and adults affected by Crohn’s and colitis. With your fundraising efforts, together we can Make it stop. For life.

What happens on Walk Day?

Every Gutsy Walk is unique. Routes can vary from community-to-community but are typically 5km. What every Gutsy Walk has in common is a fun-filled event with activities for all ages. CLICK HERE for event specific details.

What’s NEW for Gutsy Walk 2017?

Join us this year as we celebrate Gutsy Walk’s 22nd anniversary. In 2014/2015, we launched the CROHN’S AND COLITIS – MAKE IT STOP. FOR LIFE. campaign. This is our most ambitious fundraising campaign ever to help raise $100 million for transformative research, patient programs, education and advocacy. We want every child and adult living with these diseases to live life to the fullest and ultimately be cured. To date we are already at 44% of our goal! Learn more about the campaign.

What if it rains/hails on event day?

Gutsy Walk takes place rain or shine! Check your local weather station on walk day and come prepared. Your local walk will only be cancelled if there are severe weather conditions such as lightning.

Are dogs allowed at Gutsy Walk?

Each walk site has different permission levels set out by local municipal permit standards. For specific information on your local walk site please CONTACT your local walk staff partner.

Can I participate on my own?

Yes. Gutsy Walk participants can fundraise and register as an individual however how about creating a team of family members, friends and /or co-workers? Consider registering as a Team Captain by creating a team NOW.

Do I have to be registered to participate in Gutsy Walk?

Yes.To help us plan your event day experience let us know you will be joining us. Tell us by registering online, you will also have access to great online fundraising tools that will help you and your team members raise funds easily.

Is there a registration fee?

No. Gutsy Walk is a fundraising event, and all participants are encouraged to register online and fundraise. On average participants raise approximately $400 using our online fundraising solution. Online fundraising is easy safe and secure. On average, Gutsy Walk participants who fundraised online raised 85% more!

Is there a registration deadline?

No. Participants are encouraged to register early and to maximize fundraising using the online Participant Centre.

How do I register for Gutsy Walk?

REGISTER ONLINE today by creating a new team or joining a team. You can also register as an individual participant.

How do I register my team in Gutsy Walk?

Register a team online now. Have some fun; give your team a unique name or theme. Using the e-mail templates in the online participant centre, it’s easy to invite your family, friends and co-workers to join your team

What if I joined the wrong team by mistake? How can I switch teams?

E-mail us at gutsywalk@crohnsandcolitis.ca or call us at 1-800-387-1479 and tell us your name, the walk location you registered for and the name of the team you would like to join.

I registered as an Individual by mistake and would instead like to join a team

How many people have to be on my team?

It takes a minimum of two to make a team.  The more people on your team, the more fun you will have on walk day, and…make a bigger fundraising splash too!  Recruit your family, friends and co-workers to join your team. In 2016, the average team had six members with many teams reaching even greater numbers.

What if my team registers and is unable to attend the Walk?

That's okay! Participate in SPIRIT; you and your teammates are still eligible to earn a prize for your fundraising efforts. Monies must be received by July 4, 2016.

Is there a minimum fundraising amount I have to raise?

No. All participants are encouraged to raise $100+ in pledges which is the first prize level. But why stop there? Commit to fundraising $1,000+ and become a Top Pledge Earner. How do I raise pledges?

For best results register online. It’s simple, effective and secure. On average participants who fundraise online raise 85% more than individuals exclusively raising funds offline. If you’re collecting off-line pledges remember to please download a pledge form from your online Participant Centre

Is the online fundraising tool secure?

Yes. The system uses the most current encryption tools to provide a safe and secure environment for participants and donors. All transactions and data are captured and stored in a secure environment. Industry standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption certificates are used. The online fundraising site displays the thawte SSL Web Server Certificate seal that confirms the transaction is secure and encrypting all data.

Electronic tax receipts are secured with either a random 40-bit or 128-bit encryption code ensuring their authenticity while at the same time, meeting all government standards. While PDF tax receipts are sent via the online system and can be printed, they are tamper-proof.

All online transactions are conducted using the HTTPS protocol – the same standards used by most major financial institutions on their online banking applications.

What is required to set up my personal fundraising page?

Setting up your personal web page is quick and easy and requires no technical skills. All you need to do is register online and spend a little time personalizing your fundraising page. Upload your photos or videos and share your story, let people know why Gutsy Walk is important to you. These few minutes can make a big difference and will help kick-start your fundraising success.

How do I enter offline donations online?
Offline donations include cash and cheques collected through in-person fundraising.  Using the online participant centre simply click the “Enter Offline Pledges” button and input the requested information. The donation will be included in the ‘offline’ donation portion of your fundraising thermometer. You will also have the option to include donors’ names on your Honour Roll. 
 
NOTE:  To be eligible for tax receipting, and to count towards prizing, ALL offline donations must be received by Crohn’s and Colitis Canada. When submitting donations, enclose  payment, and remember to include a copy of your pledge form outlining the address details for each offline donor. Keep a copy for your records. Offline donations with accompanying pledge forms can also be submitted on walk day.
 
When does online fundraising close?

You have up to July 4: three weeks after Gutsy Walk, to collect pledges online and to submit offline pledges to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada office.

When and how do I submit my pledge form and offline monies?

Offline donations with accompanying pledge forms can be submitted on walk day. Pledges collected offline will be added to your online fundraising total and will count towards eligible prizing. When submitting donations, enclose payment, and remember to include a copy of your pledge form outlining the address details for each offline donor. If you’re unable to attend on walk day or if you receive additional funds post walk day, you have up to July 4 to submit monies and pledge forms to your local office and still be eligible for prizing.

What is a ‘Corporate Match Program’?

‘Corporate Match Programs’ are offered by many Canadian companies. Companies offering this program will match employees' charitable donation dollar for dollar, and some companies will also match dollars employees have fundraised or for their volunteer contribution.

How do I know if the company I work for offers a 'Corporate Match Program'?

Many Canadian companies offer a ‘Corporate Match Program’, encouraging employees to make philanthropic gifts to charities. Ask someone in human resources or if applicable your corporate donations department.

Fundraising Prizing

How is incentive prizing being awarded?

Participants who raise $250 and above through online and confirmed offline fundraising submitted by July 4, 2017 are eligible to receive one of the gift card prizes. Each year more and more Gutsy Walk participants choose to maximize their contribution to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada by not taking their prizes. Similar to last year, participants will be asked during the online registration process and on the pledge form to select if they wish to receive their prize or “opt-in” if they qualify for prizing. We wish to reward your fundraising efforts while acknowledging the growing commitment of participants to improve the lives of children and adults living with these diseases and ultimately finding cures. All participants who raise $100 or more will be entitled to receive the T-shirt on walk day.

How is prizing awarded?
Participant prizes are awarded based on the combined total of online and offline pledges submitted per participant by July 4, 2017. One prize per registered participant.  Please note: general team donations do not count towards INDIVIDUAL prizing as PRIZES ARE ONE PER REGISTERED PARTICIPANT. Learn more about prizing 
How long after walk day will I recieve my prize?
Please allow 8-10 weeks for receipt of prizing details, final info is sent to all participants in early September.
Do 'TEAM donations' qualify for prizing?
Donors can make Gutsy Walk donations to an entire team using the online system. Team donations will NOT be counted towards INDIVIDUAL prizing as PRIZES ARE ONE PER REGISTERED PARTICIPANT. Team donations will count towards TEAM fundraising contests.

To whom should my donor make the cheque payable to?

Cheques can be made payable to: Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.

Why wasn't my credit card accepted?

Please double check to ensure you have keyed the credit card number and expiry date correctly.

Can I make a donation even though I will not be participating in Gutsy Walk?

Yes. Make a Gutsy Walk donation in your community by clicking the “DONATE" button.

Can I donate to a TEAM?

Yes, donors can pledge to an entire team using the online system. Team donations do not count towards INDIVIDUAL prizing as PRIZES ARE ONE PER REGISTERED PARTICIPANT. Team donations count towards TEAM fundraising contests.

When will Crohn’s and Colitis Canada issue tax receipts for Gutsy Walk donations?

Donors who pledge $15+ online will receive an electronic tax receipt by e-mail within minutes of completing a successful transaction. A thank-you note is also automatically generated for all donations. Receipts for offline donations will be sent by the end of August.

I lost my tax receipt, how do I get another copy?

Privacy

Can my personal and/or team fundraising page be viewed by the public?

Yes. Team and individual fundraising pages are public. As a participant you have the option to turn on and off the public search feature within the Participant Centre.

Can people donate anonymously?

Yes. Donors have the option of keeping their name and/or their donation amount ‘anonymous’.  

Note: A donor's identity will still be passed on to the participant and to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada for processing reasons.

What if I forgot my online password or username?

Go to the Participant Login Page. Follow the prompts to have a new password and username sent to your email.
